YMCA Sleep Easy 2025: One Night Sleeping Rough to Change Lives

Sleep Easy 2025

On Friday 16th May, over 25 people gathered at YMCA St Annes for a powerful night of reflection, resilience, and fundraising as part of YMCA Sleep Easy 2025 — a national movement with one goal: to support those facing homelessness.

From 7pm to 7am, 10 of us slept rough in the open car park on St Albans Road to raise vital funds for YMCA Fylde Coast’s Housing Services, which provide supported and affordable accommodation for young people aged 16–35 across Fylde and Wyre.

With over £1,500 raised so far, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who braved the night, donated, or supported the cause — your commitment will directly help young people in our region move from homelessness to independence.

Warm Food, Cold Night, Powerful Messages

We were joined by local community kitchen Wesley’s, who kindly provided homemade soup, sandwiches, tea, and coffee on the night — followed by bacon sandwiches and pastries the next morning. A huge thank you to Paul, Jennifer, and their team for their generosity and care.

As welcome as the food and conversation were, the night served as a stark reminder: this was just one night for us — but it’s a harsh reality for many, every night. Sleeping outside in a busy public space, near a park and walk-through car park, made it clear how exposed and vulnerable rough sleeping can be.

Community Spirit and Conversations That Matter

The evening also included a “Design Your Box” competition, a visit from Bill’s Ices (who generously donated all proceeds), and a gathering around the firepit — where conversations turned heartfelt. We spoke about the meaning behind Sleep Easy, the daily challenges people experiencing homelessness face, and how these funds can bring dignity, security, and support.

Why This Matters

While this was YMCA Fylde Coast’s first Sleep Easy event, it won’t be the last — because the need is real. Blackpool has the highest rate of homelessness in Lancashire, and Fleetwood continues to face growing pressures. But hope begins with action.

Our Supported Housing in Fleetwood and affordable accommodation in Fleetwood and Lytham give young people a safe place to call home. More than just a roof, our services help residents develop life skills, access education and employment, and build a better future.

We support them not just to survive, but to thrive.

A Night to Remember

Sleep Easy 2025 wasn’t comfortable, but it was powerful. For just one night, we gave up our beds to raise awareness and drive change. And while we had warm drinks and support — we experienced just a small part of the fear, isolation, and hardship that so many live with daily.

Now’s the time for change.

To everyone who slept out, donated, made soup, sold ice cream, or shared our story — thank you. Your kindness helps us provide real solutions to homelessness and support young people across our community.
